Patrick Lane Nott began his career in the rarefied world of Formula One and talks about the use of 3D virtual simulations for race-car aerodynamics and analysis and to train drivers with VR track simulations. He explains how dynamic digital twins are now being used in tunnelling and underground construction, and highlights the challenges faced by the construction industry in embracing digital technology. He explores issues surrounding the interconnectivity of metaverse technologies, the need for a common architecture and new common standards; bandwidth and power requirements, data processing and edge computing; the barriers to digital adoption and need for education in industry; IT integration, the software platforms and digital tools currently available; the future of data transformation and metaverse technologies.
