Metaverse Standards Forum has welcomed D-Link as the first participant from the networking equipment industry.
Metaverse Standards Forum is a newly established industry body that aims to promote alignment on priorities and requirements for Metaverse interoperability standards.
As a principal member D-Link will coordinate with Standards Developing Organisations from various industries to accelerate the implementation of standards for the Metaverse. Companies and organisations that participate in the basic standards will serve as the foundations for an open Metaverse.
The Metaverse Standards Forum includes many of the biggest companies working in the space, from chip makers to gaming companies. It seeks to encourage and enable the development of open interoperability standards.
The metaverse will combine the connectivity of the web with immersive spatial computing, and diverse technologies will need to interoperate in new ways. Standardized access to proven technologies creates market opportunities by removing market friction and helps ensure the metaverse is open and accessible to all.
Metaverse diverse technologies
The metaverse is motivating the novel integration and deployment of diverse technologies for collaborative spatial computing, such as interactive 3D graphics, augmented and virtual reality, photo-realistic content authoring, geo-spatial systems, end-user content tooling, digital twins, real-time collaboration, physical simulation, online economies, multi-user gaming, all at new levels of scale and immersiveness
According to a recent study by Gartner, 25% of people worldwide will spend at least one hour per day in the Metaverse for work, shopping, education, social and/or entertainment reasons, and 30% of organisations globally will have products and services ready for the Metaverse by 2026.
Interoperability is one of the key issues in the early stages of the Metaverse industry, and tech giants hope the Metaverse Standards Forum will push the growth and evolution of the Metaverse.
“The Metaverse is where humans from diverse cultures interact through immersive experiences in a virtual world. To realise its full potential, the Metaverse must be built on open standards with interoperability and consistency to bring various domains together,” said CJ Chang, ceo of D-Link Corporation. “D-Link is proud to join the Metaverse Standards Forum at the early stages of its establishment. We intend to collaborate with partners from many industries to make the Metaverse a better experience for all through standardisation.”
